On July 7, 2025, the Agricultural Technology Support Research Institute (ASTRI) officially launched its Mekong Delta Sub-Institute in An Giang Province, and simultaneously initiated a large-scale low-carbon agricultural ecosystem project with a total investment of 794 billion VND.

Mekong Delta Sub-Institute Launch

The sub-institute was established to extend ASTRIs research and technology transfer activities to the Mekong Delta — the nations key agricultural production hub, accounting for over 50% of national rice output.

Low-Carbon Ecosystem Project

The 794 billion VND project will implement high-tech rice cultivation linked to carbon credit development across 1,500 hectares.

Expected Impact

The project aims to create new income streams for farmers through carbon credits while elevating the value of Vietnamese rice in global markets, making it one of the largest low-carbon agricultural projects in the Mekong Delta.
